I think I have Maskne

Are you experiencing new breakouts where your mask is touching your skin? This could be a result of Maskne also known as Acne Mechanica. This usually occurs when sweat, oil, bacteria, and possibly makeup are trapped on skin while wearing a mask. This leaves the skin vulnerable to bacteria and leads to clogged pores and irritation.
Here are some tips that may help with reducing irritation and inflamation.
  1. Make sure to use a gentle cleanser especially if skin is irritated to help clean and reduce  buildup that has accumulated over time
  2. Use a clean mask  and wash cloth mask in gentle laundry detergent. Disposable masks are preferred because you can toss it and use a new one more consistently. Allow your skin to breathe in between while practicing social distancing.
  3. Was hands multiple times a day and reduce the amount of times you touch your face
  4.  Invest in a good moisturizer that is suitable for your skin. This will help prevent dryness allowing your skin’s natural protective barrier to function as needed.
